Chaudhary Charan Singh, known as the Messiah of the farmers, was born in the year 1902 in a middle class farmer family in Noorpur village of Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. He graduated in science in the year 1923 and obtained a master’s degree from Agra University in the year 1925. After this, after obtaining a law degree from Meerut College in the year 1926, he started practicing law from Ghaziabad.

Became MLA for the first time in 1937

After joining Congress in 1929, Chaudhary Charan Singh was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly from Chhaprauli in 1937. After this he represented his constituency in the Legislative Assembly from 1946 to 1967. In the year 1946, in the government of ‘Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant’, he worked in various departments like Parliamentary Secretary, Revenue, Medical and Public Health, Justice, Information etc. In the year 1952, he became ‘Dr. Became the Revenue and Agriculture Minister in the cabinet of Sampurnanand and C.B. Became Home and Agriculture Minister in Gupta’s ministry. After this, he was the Minister of Agriculture and Forests in the ministry of ‘Sucheta Kripalani’ from 1962 to 63.

Prime Minister remained only for a few days

Chaudhary Charan Singh remained in the Janata Party for some time after separating from the Congress Party but soon he resigned. In the year 1979, he formed a new government with the support of ‘Indira Gandhi’ and became the fifth Prime Minister of the country. But before his government could prove its majority in Parliament, Indira Gandhi withdrew her support and she had to resign from her post.
